Part 141

FAA Part 141 Approved Flight Training

Part 141 refers to FAA-approved flight schools that operate under an FAA-accepted training curriculum with defined stage checks, progress evaluations, and quality oversight. The benefit is a reduced flight hour minimum: 35 hours for a Private Pilot Certificate under Part 141 versus 40 under Part 61.

The reduced hour minimums sound good on paper, but most students need more hours than the FAA minimum no matter which part they train under. Part 141 works best for full-time students who can fly frequently and consistently. For part-time students, the rigid stage-check structure can add friction rather than help.
