Cambridge Valley Flying Club, founded in April 1963 to promote general aviation, offer flight and maintenance instruction, provide equipment for members, and help members advance their pilot ratings. New members are welcome, and monthly meetings take place the 2nd Thursday at 7 pm in the on-field clubhouse, open to all. The club operates Chapin Field, a public-use airport (FAA identifier 1B8) at 177 Plains Road, Cambridge, NY 12816. The club maintains two aircraft: a 1975 Cessna 172M Skyhawk and a 1946 Aeronca 7BCM Champ tail dragger, the both qualifying as a Light Sport Aircraft under MOSAIC that doesn't require an FAA medical certificate. 100LL AVGAS is available on-site but restricted to member use only—not for sale to visiting aircraft or the public. Members and visitors can use a clubhouse with a toilet and kitchen, and full members also get access to a 60x60-foot maintenance hangar, where several refurbished and experimental amateur-built aircraft have been completed over the years. Tie-downs are available, and hangars can occasionally be rented or purchased.
