The Olds Forge Flyers, Inc. was founded in 1945 by five workers at the Oldsmobile forge plant, and is the oldest (we think) continuously operating flying club in the US. The non-profit club's members have equity ownership of the aircraft, at present a Cessna 172P Skyhawk and a Piper Archer II, both IFR certified and equipped with dual Garmin G5s, a Garmin GTN 650Xi and an L-3 Lynx transponder. The Archer has a Garmin GFC 500 autopilot with the Smart Glide feature.. The aircraft are kept at AvFlight’s T-hangars at the Capital Region International Airport (KLAN). Warm indoor pre-flighting is available inside AvFligjht’s big hangar and is an added benefit in the winter. The line crew will even pull the plane out of the hangar with you in it! And when you get back, the crew will put it away for you! We have a nice computer equipped office in the AvFlight building. Our rates and dues structure are reviewed at least twice a year enabling us to keep up with fluctuating costs. The current dues are $85/month. The Skyhawk rents for $105/hour wet and the Archer for $115/hour wet. There is an annual insurance deductible waiver fee of $100 which is assessed each May and pro-rated for new members. This creates a fund which pays your share ($5,000) of the deductible if you have an incident. There is an equity fee of $1500. We have a payment plan for the fee. We're proud of our aircraft which are meticulously maintained and we think are the best available in the Lansing area. Our goal is to provide the safest possible flying at the lowest possible cost. A check out in each plane with one of our instructors is required for approval to schedule the aircraft. We have an on-line scheduling system accessible with any internet capable device.
