LNAV

LNAV

Lateral Navigation

LNAV is a GPS approach type that gives lateral (left/right) course guidance but no vertical guidance. You fly a constant-altitude segment and step down manually, similar to a VOR approach. LNAV minimums are typically around 400 ft above the ground and sometimes higher.

Both WAAS and non-WAAS GPS navigators can fly LNAV approaches. If the aircraft has WAAS, it will usually fly the more precise LPV version of the same procedure instead. LNAV is a fallback when WAAS signal is unavailable.
