Visual Flight Rules
Visual Flight Rules (VFR) govern flight in good weather when pilots can see and avoid terrain, traffic, and obstacles by looking out the window. Most primary flight training takes place under VFR. Basic minimums are 3 miles visibility and cloud clearance requirements that vary by airspace.
VFR flight is where almost every pilot starts. Once comfortable flying VFR, many pilots pursue the instrument rating to fly in IMC conditions legally under IFR.
